Metal Mother’s New EP ‘PAGAN JAZZ’ is Out Now!
About The EP>>
‘Pagan Jazz’ was written, recorded, produced, and mixed by yours truly, Metal Mother (Tara Timberman) with production help from Mike Siemens of Psychic Rites, and mixing help from David Earl, who co-produced my last album, ‘Ionika’, which is now 5 years old! ‘Pagan Jazz’ was mastered by Mike Mauldin in Los Angeles. Deeply thankful to all of their amazing work, as well as the incredible singer Ashley Knight, for adding her phenomenal operatic voice to ‘Chimera Blues’, and to Anthony Obi aka Fat Tony for his extra smooth rap verse in ‘Barbwire Baby’. Also huge thanks to the friends and family who have been there and supported the music.
‘Pagan Jazz’ is a melancholic dance album, a techno love prayer, and a homage to the unknown artists who have changed the world. It’s inspired by the abstract and important shock waves that come from the creative experiments that occur when no ones looking, and in a way, sonically attempts to address the existential conundrum- what do you sing to someone who cannot hear?
It’s also just a simple acid drenched synth surrealist peace offering between the natural and industrial, the sacred and the mundane, the mutants and the angels…ENJOY IF YOU DARE !!!
These songs were developed in several locations over the past 3 years, but were first conceived, along with several others, during a 6 week solitary stay in a tiny dome on a wolf sanctuary in foggy coastal Northern California, belonging to the gracious and beautiful Tibetan Buddhist singer, Rigzin.
Shortly after the writing retreat I relocated to Los Angeles from Oakland, where I had enjoyed some great times with some truly incredible artists. Now, living in Los Angeles, it’s feels like a perfect personal encapsulation of the chaos, growth, and beauty that have preceded in the years since then, and since releasing ‘Ionika’.
Music has the power to connect us on a level we sometimes cannot put into words. It’s an honor and a privilege to even be able to put this out and have anyone listen at all, so I genuinely thank you from the bottom of my heart if you do!
